Templates

Templates are the architects of your data. Just as architects design blueprints for buildings, templates in Omnismith are the masterplans for organizing and defining specific types of entities.

Templates lay the foundation for how you structure your data. They specify which attributes (details) you want to capture for each type of record — like specifying the rooms, walls, and doors of your data house.

By creating clear and well-defined templates, you gain several benefits:

  • Organized data — Keep your information structured and consistent across all records of the same type
  • Efficient management — Find and manage entities easily because they share a common structure
  • Uncover insights — Analyze data effectively across entities with similar structures

To create a new template:

  1. Navigate to the Templates page from the bottom navigation bar
  2. Click the + New Template button
  3. Give your template a descriptive name (e.g., “Customer”, “Product”, “Support Ticket”)
  4. Attach attributes — Select the attributes that should be part of this template

Here are some common templates and the attributes they might include:

TitleString
AuthorString
Publication DateDate
GenreList
PriceNumber

You can add attributes to a template at any time. When you do, all existing entities created from that template automatically gain a space for the new attribute (initially empty).

You can also remove attributes from a template. This won’t delete the data for existing entities — it just means new entities won’t include that attribute by default.
